This song was sung and composed by Melanie McMillan, furriend of our beans. In fact, she visited the castle yesterday and played with the kittens. Mombean loves it and thinks it will become a Christmas Classic at the Castle. Since Gaudete Sunday is all about rejoicing that the lord is near, Mombean thought efurryone might enjoy hearing it.

Those kitties that are our FB furriends already know that Olivia hadded 5 kittens last Wednesday Sept. 21st. Yep. Olivia birthed 5 kittens while da beans were at the steeple place doing some meowing (i fink hoomans call it singing). Olivia and Teddy are proud parents of 5 babies- 3 black and 2 blue. Mallory here. Fanks so much for coming to my party yesterday. I hope efurrybody hatted a grate time. I sure did. There was plenty to eat and drink. Quite da spread da beans put out for my party!

Shower for Katie and kittens will be this afternoon (1-6 PM EDST). In part cuz da beans need to clean up from the party yesterday! And take lots of cute pics of de bebehs. An Eggstravaganza!!!

First, I wants to thank all my furriends who encouraged me and told me not to let the mombean close the bloggie! She has not made up her mind about the cattery as yet. The more good noos is that 27 May is Mallory's purrfday and we're going to have a combined purrfday partee for Olivia and her. The best noos is that we're going to have a baby kitten shower for Katie and her babies. The bestest noos is that we're going to haf a castle trashing' partee as the beans forgotted Olivia's birthday. Their cleaning up from the trashing will be their penance for having forgotted Olivia's birthday. All this will occur this weekend!!!!

Friday. May 27, we will celebrate Mallory's and Olivia's purrfday!

Saturday, May 28, we will have a kitten shower for Katie and her kittens.

Hey All, Galletta *tagged* me to play this meme abut beaning weerd. Here we go!

1) I am a pedigreed cat! Did you realize that pedigreed cats are less than 3 % of all cats. That makes me weerd.

2) I am weerd cuz I have a registered name- Rubanthom Alexandra Dasha. Weerd, right? Hey efurryone calls me Lexi or Bexi or Flexi (i finks cuz of my flexabillity-see pic below).

3) I luv to lay in my basket on my back. It may seem weerd but it sure is comfy!

4) I luv to jump to high places especially tops of doors or shower rods as in the pic below. Don't you fink that is weerd?

5) I luvs to fetch. I have been doing this since I was a kitten. My beans were astonished that I fetched like a dog. Weerd right?

6) I luvs it when one of my beans scritches the base of my tail. They finks that I am weerd cuz then I lick their noz.

7) I likes some hooman foods like Sahmun, chick-hen and even tomato sauce! Now THAT is weerd!!

Weekend cleaning

Hai, all.

Mombean and Blu Cat Man haf been cleaning in and around the castle in a flurry of busyness. They founded lots of cat toys and haf been generally tidying up the kit-shen. It looks so clean it blinded our eyes.

Hello! It is time for the annual purr-fur-mance revue of my beans. I regert to say that they have not been up to the minimum standards which I and the other cats expect of dem. I suspect that its because they have been busy with work and other things that normally occur in the lives of beans.

1.Quantity of output: Has your purr-son posted to your blog daily to give you maximum exposure world-wide and make you famous?

The answer to that is "no." They post occasionally when they take me to cat shows and when I do something cute. They seem more involved with the lives of the kittens. Additionallly, they love to post these photographs while allowing us older kitties to languish. While understandable, it should not interfere with blogging of our lives as well.

2.Quality of output: Are you, as snoopervisor, satisfied with your purrsons choice of photos and words: the creativity, imagination, truth, fun and general interest in your postings?
When they do post under my snoopervision, generally, it's fun, interesting, imaginative, and does a satisfactory job of making me and the others look our best. It's not difficult when there is so little to be done to achieve photographic and PR excellence.

3.Client pawticipation: Does your purrson provide you sufficient ways for your fans to contact you and you to contact them?
This is the crux of the problem. There is just insufficient time given over for proper PR. We have many fans and they clamor to see more of us.

4.Pawticipation (part II): Does your purrson allow you to take part in fun blog world special events, parties, contests, and more?
No! Occasionally, Occasionally we are permitted to participate in chats in the Chatzy room. Occasionally we may be permitted to participate in contests such as the Full Monty.

5.Client satisfaction: Are your friends purringly contented with what they see and read on your blog?
We are not sure. We think it is because they do not know we are out in the blogosphere and at cat shows and on the bed, fast asleep. We think there is a problem somewhere.

6.Overall rating, comments, and suggestions for improvement:

We have conducted multiple retreats (on the bed) and discussed this. ad nauseum. Our overall rating is one swipe and one paw.

As for improvement, we suggest that the beans have their salaries increased so we are increasing it by one can of stinky goodness. An additional incentive will be a catnip cigar for both of them. This will be a year of growth and improvement by our public relations staff.

Hi All, Mombean hahzed finally gotten to posting pics of Olivia and babies. Some can be graphic so perhaps young beans should not view some of the pics. Olivia's kittens are a week old today. Mombean will have pics of the week old kittens up tomorrow. Today enjoy the first moments of Olivia and babies together. Enjoy!

First kitten arrived wednesday afternoon! No more kittens were born for over 19 hours!

Then kitten #2, a blue, arrived on Thursday morning.

Then Olivia hadded two kittens, one black and one blue, to love and nurse.

Then #3 kitten, a blue, came along about an hour later and there were 3 kittens to love!

Finally, kitten #4, another black, came along on Thursday morning.

Hi All,

While the beans did forgetted Galletta's puurrrrthday, don't let him fool ya! He enjoys those cat shows. Lots of time for naps and you get stroked and played with by several strangers. I nefur enjoyed cat shows much as I am a shy cat but G? He lovs for all beans to recognize how handsome he is! Pictures of G at the cat show are on his bloggie. Sorry, the piccys were taken by Dadbean with his iPhone so a bit fuzzy.

Here is the report from the TICA cat show:
There were 6 judges, 3 All breed and 3 speciality. He did well and getted an award in all 3 speciality finals. He gotted 2 4th best LH alter wins and a 3rd best LH alter wins. Mombean finks that he has enough points and mebbe enough final placements for his Grand Championship Alter title. So she will send off the form and wait and see what happens. She is about 90% certain but is not absolutely positive. Anyway, G did just grand on Sunday. Now on to the the Russians.

WELL....... Teddy and Katie did not do as well as their was another Russian Blue cat there at the show. And what a cat he is- a International Winner Supreme Grand Champion. Teddy was placed 2nd best of breed by 4 judges and 3 rd by 2 judges. Katie was placed 3rd best of breed by 4 judges and 2nd best of breed by 2 judges. Obviously the SGC cat was best of breed in all 6 rings. Even so the SGC Russian Blue male did not earn a final in every ring. Not such a good show for the Russians. Mombean and Dadbean were kept busy taking our 3 cats to the various judges.

As we promised, today we tell the rest of Molly's story, Take it away Mombean!

Mombean: Thanks, Alexi. OK on to the rest of Molly's story. First thing we need to tell you is that Molly was pregnant. In fact she was near her due date when she died. Now, on to what happened.

Molly woke us up early that morning. We knew she was due soon.... so in anticipation of her giving birth, I moved her to the room we use as a nursery. I kept checking on her expecting her to deliver her kittens. She had had kittens before so we did not expect any problems. In fact I planned on just checking on her as I usually do because she usually has her kittens without any problems. Well after about an hour and an a half and no kittens, I began to think something was not quite right. She did cry some which she normally does not do when having kittens. I called the emergency vet and left a message. The emergency vet for this area is also our usual vet. The vet on call then calls back. Well, 15 mins. later there was a phone call but the person hung up. We checked the number. Hmmm? it was from our vets office. Fortunately, the vet called back about 10 minutes later. This time, Dadbean picked up the phone. He gave me the phone and I began explaining what was going on with Molly. It was obvious that the vet was not concerned about Molly. She told us that it would not be good to interrupt her labor. At which point, I said, I am NOT sure she is IN labor. She had had a few contractions but not like she normally does when in labor. The vet still refused to believe me. It was not until I held up the phone so she could hear Molly's cries from down the hall that the vet begin to realize that something maybe not quite right. So after 10-15 minutes of discussing the situation with vet, she FINALLY agreed to see us and told us to come to the vet clinic. So we gathered up Molly and drove to the vet clinic- about a 10 minute drive from our house.

We got to the vet clinic in about 5-10 minutes. We waited .... and waited .... AND WAITED ! We waited for a total of half an hour !!
When the vet drove up, she rolled down the window and talked to us through the window. She told us that she had tried to call us and we did not answer. Well, she had NOT tried to call us. [However, Dadbean did find two "hang ups" from the vet on his OFFICE answering machine as the machine saves the number. Why she thought a librarian would be at work that early in the morning ???? Who knows?? Must also say that there were NO messages on our home phone either!] We got out of our car ready to take Molly inside. She told us then that she could not see Molly as we "had not paid your bill". She told us that this was "policy" and she "had no choice. My hands are tied". We told her that Bill would gladly go to an ATM and get whatever money was needed to pay the bill. We really wanted Molly to be seen as she was in pain and was crying more. I KNEW something was NOT right by this time. Again, she said that her hands were tied and she could not see us. She told us to go to the emergency vet in Elgin. At that point she drove off like a bat out of h%$#. My last words to her as she drove off was that she had just lost a client.

Well, at that point we were wondering what to do as it was now about an hour later from when we first called the vet. We went home and called another vet in town that we knew. (He is NOT the emergency vet but does a have a practice in town). Called and got their answering service. He called us back within 10 minutes. I discussed the situation with him. He agreed that going to the emergency vet in Columbia was the best thing to do. SO off I go to the emergency vet with Molly. Dadbean stayed at home as he had to go to work. The drive to Columbia is about a hour and a half. I got to the address where I thought the emergency vet was located. Well, the emergency clinic had MOVED! Fortunately there was a note on the door with the new address. So off I go again with Molly. It took another 10-15 minutes to get the emergency clinic. When I got there, the staff took Molly immediately. They tried to revive her with CPR and fluids. Alas, to no avail. She died about 7 o'clock that morning- about three hours from when I first called our vet. When I talked to the emergency vet in Columbia, he mentioned the possibility of a twisted uterus (uterine torsion). He also recommended that a necropsy be done on Molly so we know what happened to cause her death. Well, it was agonizing coming home without our beloved Molly. It was also agonizing waiting on the results of the necropsy. The results of the necropsy came two weeks later. The necropsy showed that she had not just one but TWO twists of the uterus. The kittens were fully formed with hair (as we expected as she was near her due date). However the twists in the uterus had cut off their blood supply so they died in utero. We are sad that Molly had to die in this manner. We believe she could have been saved with a hysterectomy had our vet been willing to see her.

I must mention at this point, that this practice has three vets. The vet that refused to see Molly was one of the younger vets and is not very experienced being a recent vet school graduate. We did talk to the senior vet in the practice about the situation. To put it mildly, we are NOT pleased with the situation.

WE MISS YOU, MOLLY! WE LOVE YOU !! WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU, MISS PURR PURR!!

Remembering September 11,2001

We will never forget Setembir 11, 2001. Mombean went to go teach her classes as usual that day. When she was done teaching her classiz, she checked an online rose forum (back when she was more into roses than cats!!). They were discussing what had happened in NY. Mombean could not believe that a plane had actually struck two buildings in NY. She tried going to a news website but it was so busy she could not get in. Anyway, the announcement came that the college was canceling classes for the remainder of the day. So Mombean drove home. It was eeeeeery to not hear planes flying overhead. Where we used to live and Mombean used to worked is in the flight path of a nearby small but international airport. Mombean spent the remainder of the day outside in her garden tending the roses and the other plants. She and dadbean watched the evening news as more horrid details came out about the plane crash at the pentagon and in Pennsylvania. What an oddly horrid day!

44. How do you discipline your pet? She does not need much discipline. On those rare occasions, we use a firm NO or a water gun for a squirt of water.

Yes, Alexi has won many awards at cat shows. She is a excellent example of her breed. She earned her Champion, Grand Champion, Double Grand Champion and Triple Grand Champion Alter titles in TICA. She was Best Cat once and was in the top 10 many times. She was best Russian Blue Cat in TICA'S SE region in 2003-2004, 2005-2006 and 20 th best Alter in ACFA's SE region in 2008-2009.

32. Where is their favorite place to nap?
Alexi loves to nap in her basket but any warm place suits her just fine.

33. What does your pet do that makes you laugh?
Alexi is still playful and it is those playful moments when she plays like a kitten that make us laugh.

34. What is your favorite way to spend time with your pet?
She loves to spend time curled up near me. She loves to be near me and then puuurrr and purrs.

35. Who takes care of your pet when you are away?
Usually we have friends come and take care of our cats while we are away.

Alexi loves to play with running water whether from sink or tub faucet.

Yes, she is incredibly good climber and jumper as the picture below shows. She is perched on our shower rod.

We have Greenie dental treats and dried salmon and chicken.

According to the Alexi, nothing beats a nibble from our meal esp. when we have salmon or chicken.

21. Has your pet ever been a mother or a father? Yes, I has been a mother. I is such a good mother that the beans called me "uber mom".

22. Is your pet trained? No, we cats TRAIN the beans.

23. What is the comment you hear most often about your pet? People always complement my emerald green eyes and soft, gray fur.

24. Does your pet like anyone besides you? Yes, I love my beans and most of the other kittehs except for Mr. G. He bullies some of the girls so we hided from him.

25. What kind of food does your pet eat? We eat Felidae- both dry and moist.

12. Does your pet have a nickname? Yes, Lexi, Sexy Lexi, Bexi, Flex, and Grandma!
13. Describe your pet in 7 words or less: Beeutiful, smart, sweet, cuddly, friendly, intelligent, and a great mama!!
14. Are they like a member of the family? Definitely. She is our first show cat so a very special girl to us.
15. What kinds of toys does your pet play with? When Alexi was younger, she would play retriever with mice or other small toys.
She still loves fevver toys and mice. Also loves anyfing with cat nip. Luvs to play wif water.
16. Be honest…do you play with your pet’s toys? NO! However, I will play with her with the toys. She LUVS that.
17. What is their favorite toy? Alexi's favorite toys are the fevver tease wands and mice (cat-nip filled and regular mice).
18. Does your pet have a favorite napping spot? Yes, she loves to nap in her basket. See picture below.

19. Does your pet have an interesting sleeping position? She loves to lay on her back or curled up in her basket.

20. Has your pet ever been really sick? No, other than a few upper respiratory infections she has been very healthy.

Hey All, Mombean was sented some really neat questions (52) about pets for those beans that we own. She will be posting all 52 questions over time. Here is the first group of ten and Mombean's answers in Italics. Please feel free to play along on your blog.

1. What type of animal is your pet? Cats. OF COURSE !

2. Male or female? Both. Also several spays and one neuter.

3. Are they a specific breed? Yes, Russians and one Nebelung.

3. Why did you choose that specific type of pet? I realized that my hubby to be loved green eyed gray cats. SO I looked into cat breeds that fit that description. There are two Korats and Russian Blues. I decided on the Russian Blue because there was a breeder near us that had an adult available. I wanted a Nebelung as they are the long haired versions of the Russian.

5. What is your pet's name? Too many to list. But the most *infamous* cats we have are our bloggers, Alexi and Galletta.

6. How did they get their name? Alexi got her name because I wanted a Russian name for her. Alexandra is a nice girl's name and I knew Alexi was a nickname. We had already begun to call her Alexi so it fit. Galletta was name by his first mom/breeder.

7. What does your pet look like?
Alexi is lovely shorthaired blue cat with gorgeous green eyes. You can see her pic at the top of the page. Galletta is a blue cat with medium long hair. His pic is on his blog.

8. How old is your pet? Alexi is 8 years old and Mr. G (Galletta) will be 2 in Sept.

9. How long have you had them? We have had Alexi for over 7 years (since she was 4months old) and Mr. G- for a little over a year.

10. Where did you get them from? Alexi is from a Russian breeder in Georgia. Mr. G is from a breeder in Nova Scotia, Canada.

This post is dedicated to the memory of one veery spechul Siameeze kitteh named Stormie. Stormie was a very spechul kitteh to her beans and her sisfur. Stormie developed Feline Lymphoma. She was originally diagnosed in December 2006. She lived for 18 months. I know her beans miss her very much. Her mombean has an entire website dedicated to Stormie.

Stormie, we did not know you furry well but we do know that you mombean and sisfur loved you furry much and still do.

Mombean found the above at Winn Feline Foundation website. She thought it was a really KEWL idea that you can make a donation to honor a veterinarian that has been supportive to you or your beans in time of need or sickness AND help fund research at the same time. How cool is that!!

Many of our beans hafted been sad at the loss of a beloved kith. Every week, the Cat Blogosphere news haz news of saying good bye to kittens some of whom suffered from diseases. This organization, Winn Feline Foundation, helps fight diseases in us kittens by funding research into diseases in particular, FIP and HCM. The Bria Fund helps fund research into FIP. The Ricky Fund helps fund research into HCM. Donating to these named funds is another way to fund research into these awful diseases.

Please consider giving to the Winn Feline Foundation to help fight diseases in kittehs.
